WEEE & Battery Recycling Notice
This notice explains how to responsibly dispose of the electronic products and battery-containing accessories sold by Carplaylux, why they must never go into household waste, and how the WEEE Directive and EU Battery Regulation apply to a Netherlands-based, EU-wide online retailer of CarPlay systems, headlights, LED kits, and automotive electronics.
Electronics and Batteries Need Separate Disposal
Carplaylux is the trading name of Batterijen.net, a Netherlands-registered business (VAT NL003661115B65, registration number 82259844) selling wireless Apple CarPlay systems, Android Auto multimedia units, OEM and OEM-style headlights, LED headlight and rear light kits, automotive electronics, and interior and exterior accessories through carplaylux.com. Many of these products are classed as electrical or electronic equipment (EEE) under EU law, and some contain or are supplied with batteries. This notice explains, clearly and specifically for our own catalogue, how these items must be disposed of at end of life and what your rights and options are as a consumer in the European Union.
This is a standard, legally required customer-facing notice under the WEEE Directive 2012/19/EU and the EU Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, both of which have been implemented into the national law of every country we ship to. It should be read together with our Terms of Service and Legal Notice.
Every EU Customer Receiving an Electronic Product
This notice applies to any customer in Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Croatia, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, or Spain who purchases a head unit, LED kit, electronic accessory, or battery-containing product from Carplaylux, and to that product once it reaches the end of its useful life.
It does not apply to purely mechanical accessories that contain no electrical or electronic components (for example, non-illuminated trim panels), which can generally follow standard end-of-life disposal rules for the material they are made from, as clarified in the scope table below.
Which Carplaylux Products Are Covered
WEEE and battery obligations apply to products containing electrical circuitry, screens, LEDs, or batteries. Here is how our own catalogue breaks down.
CarPlay & Android Auto Head Units
Contain screens, circuit boards, and wiring harnesses. Fall squarely within WEEE Category 3 (IT and telecommunications equipment) / Category 4 (consumer equipment) under Annex III of Directive 2012/19/EU.
LED Headlight & Rear Light Kits
Contain LED driver electronics and, in sequential or app-controlled variants, control modules. Classed as EEE under WEEE Category 5 (lighting equipment).
Automotive Electronics & Control Modules
Digital instrument clusters, control units, and wiring accessories that support our lighting and infotainment systems are electronic goods covered by WEEE.
Electronic Interior Accessories
Any interior accessory with ambient lighting, USB charging, or electronic controls falls within scope. Purely mechanical trim and covers do not.
Non-Electronic Exterior Accessories
Body-styling components with no electrical function are not classed as EEE and follow standard material-based (plastic, metal) waste rules, not the WEEE process described in this notice.
Remotes & Backup-Powered Accessories
Where a product ships with a remote control, key fob-style controller, or a coin-cell/backup battery, both the WEEE notice and the separate battery notice below apply to that item.
What the Crossed-Out Wheelie Bin Symbol Means
This symbol, defined in Annex IX of the WEEE Directive 2012/19/EU and referenced in Article 71 of the EU Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, is placed on electrical and electronic products, batteries, and their packaging across the European Union. It has one meaning: this item must never be placed in general household or municipal waste bins.
Where our products carry this symbol, either on the item itself, its packaging, or its user documentation, it indicates that the product (or its battery) must be taken to a designated separate collection point at the end of its useful life, so that hazardous substances can be safely managed and valuable materials, including metals used in circuit boards and LED components, can be recovered rather than landfilled or incinerated.
Where a battery carries chemical symbols beneath the crossed-out bin (Pb for lead, Hg for mercury, or Cd for cadmium), this indicates that the battery contains that substance above the regulatory threshold. Please check your specific product's battery label, where fitted, for this detail.
How and Where to Recycle Your Product
As an online-only retailer, Carplaylux does not operate physical stores, but every EU country we ship to guarantees consumers free, accessible options for disposing of electronic waste and batteries responsibly.
Municipal Collection Points
Every municipality in the countries we serve operates free household WEEE and battery collection points (recycling centres, civic amenity sites, or dedicated street-level battery bins). These are the simplest option for most customers.
Retailer Take-Back Obligations
Under Article 5(2) of the WEEE Directive, distance sellers placing EEE on the market are required to offer, or participate in a scheme offering, free take-back of waste equipment on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis when supplying a new item. Contact us before ordering a replacement if you would like to arrange this for your old unit.

Each country operates registered producer-compliance schemes that fund and coordinate collection networks; national examples are listed in the country-by-country section below.
Battery Drop-Off Points
Batteries and battery-containing accessories can generally be returned to any battery collection point, including many supermarkets, electronics retailers, and municipal sites, regardless of where the battery was originally purchased.

Producer Responsibility & Registration
Under the WEEE Directive and the EU Battery Regulation, any business that places electrical or electronic equipment, or batteries, on the market as a "producer" (which includes an online seller who is the first to make such goods available in a given country) can be required to register with that country's national producer-responsibility scheme, report the volumes it places on the market, and fund the cost of collection and recycling.
As our home market, Batterijen.net's WEEE and battery producer-registration status in the Netherlands is maintained in accordance with Dutch implementing legislation, coordinated nationally through Stichting OPEN, the appointed compliance scheme for WEEE and batteries in the Netherlands. Where our sales volume into another EU country we ship to (Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Croatia, Austria, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, or Spain) triggers a local producer-registration requirement under that country's national WEEE or battery implementing law, typically the case for a distance seller once volumes exceed the low thresholds set by several Member States, we register with, or appoint an authorised representative registered with, the relevant national scheme for that country. Customers or authorities may request written confirmation of our current registration status for any specific destination country by contacting us using the details at the end of this notice.
Producer registration is a live, ongoing compliance obligation rather than a one-time step, and thresholds and requirements can change as national schemes update their rules. We review our registration position periodically with qualified compliance advisors as our sales volumes and destination countries evolve.
Battery-Specific Notice
The EU Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, which progressively replaces the earlier Batteries Directive 2006/66/EC, sets requirements for batteries placed on the EU market, including labelling, collection targets, and producer responsibility. Where a Carplaylux product is supplied with a battery, such as a remote control for an LED kit or a backup-powered control module, the following applies:
Where a battery is not designed to be removed by the end user (for example, an internal backup cell in a head unit), please take the whole unit to a WEEE collection point rather than attempting removal yourself, as this avoids damage and safety risk. Where a battery is user-replaceable, such as in a remote control, it can be removed and taken to any battery collection point separately from the device.

The WEEE Directive 2012/19/EU and the EU Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 set the shared EU framework, but each country implements collection through its own registered compliance schemes and environment ministry oversight. A Note on Other Producer Responsibility Obligations
Separately from WEEE and battery obligations, several of the countries we ship to also operate extended producer responsibility schemes for packaging waste (for example, France's packaging filière overseen by eco-organismes such as Citeo). This notice concerns electronic products and batteries specifically; our packaging-related obligations are managed as part of our ongoing compliance programme and are outside the scope of this page.
