Vehicle Compatibility & VIN Data Policy
Vehicle Compatibility & VIN Data Policy
This policy explains why we ask for your vehicle identification number (VIN), make, model, and year before shipping, how we use and protect that information, where responsibility sits for compatibility accuracy, and what your rights are under EU and national consumer and data protection law across the thirteen countries we serve.
Fitment Data Is Central to How We Sell
Carplaylux is the trading name of Batterijen.net, a Netherlands-registered business (VAT NL003661115B65, registration number 82259844) selling wireless Apple CarPlay systems, Android Auto multimedia units, genuine OEM and OEM-style headlights, LED headlight kits, LED rear light kits, automotive electronics, and interior and exterior accessories through our Shopify storefront at carplaylux.com. Because these products are matched to a specific chassis code, dashboard layout, headlight housing, or factory wiring configuration, we ask customers to confirm their vehicle identification number (VIN), make, model, and year after checkout and before an order is released for dispatch.
This policy explains that process in detail: what we collect, why we collect it, how it is stored and protected, who is responsible when information turns out to be inaccurate, and how EU and national consumer and data protection law apply. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy, Return & Refund Policy, and Terms of Service.
Every Order Requiring Vehicle Confirmation
This policy applies to every customer who places an order for a vehicle-specific product on carplaylux.com, and to the vehicle, VIN, and contact details submitted during our order verification step. It applies across the thirteen European Union countries we currently ship to: Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Croatia, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Spain.
It does not change or replace the data-subject rights set out in our Privacy Policy; instead, it focuses specifically on vehicle and VIN data collected for the purpose of confirming product compatibility, and how that particular category of information is handled.
Vehicle Data We Ask For, and Why
We only ask for the minimum information needed to confirm that a product fits your vehicle. We do not require this data at checkout itself; it is collected afterwards, during our verification contact, and only for products where fitment depends on your specific vehicle.
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
Your 17-character VIN, used to confirm the exact chassis code, production date, and factory configuration of your vehicle, most relevant for OEM and OEM-style headlights and LED kits matched to a specific housing.
Make, Model & Year
The manufacturer, model line, and model year of your vehicle, used to confirm dashboard layout and control-wiring compatibility for CarPlay and Android Auto units.
Trim Level & Factory Options
Where relevant, we may ask which factory trim or optional package your vehicle has (for example, a specific infotainment screen size), since this can affect head-unit and wiring compatibility.
Contact Details for Verification
Your email address and, where provided, WhatsApp number, used solely to reach you during the verification step and to send tracking information once your order ships.
Optional Photos You Choose to Send
If you voluntarily send a photo of your dashboard, headlight housing, or VIN plate to help our team confirm fitment, we use it only for that verification and do not publish it without your separate consent.
Order & Product Reference
Your order number and the specific product ordered, so our team can cross-reference the correct compatibility chart against the vehicle details you provide.
How Vehicle Verification Works
Fitment errors are the single biggest cause of returns in the automotive parts industry. We verify every vehicle-specific order before it ships so problems are caught before dispatch, not after.
Order Placed
You select your product and complete checkout. No VIN is required at this stage.
We Contact You
Our team emails you (and messages you on WhatsApp, where a number was provided) asking for your VIN, make, model, and year.
Compatibility Check
We cross-reference your vehicle details against the product's confirmed applications, sourcing documentation, and, where relevant, VIN-decoded production data.
Confirmation or Correction
If your vehicle is confirmed compatible, we release the order for dispatch. If it is not, we contact you with alternatives or a full refund before anything ships.
Data Handled Under This Policy
Your VIN and vehicle details are retained only as long as needed for this order and any applicable warranty or returns period, as set out below.
Where Responsibility Sits for Accuracy
We cross-check every VIN and vehicle description against our sourcing and compatibility records, and we will always flag a mismatch we identify during verification before your order ships. That said, the accuracy of the information you provide is essential to this process working correctly.
You are responsible for providing a correct and complete VIN, make, model, and year. If an incorrect vehicle detail you supplied causes a product to be shipped that does not fit, this is treated as a customer-provided-information error under our Return & Refund Policy, rather than a fault in the product itself, though we will still work with you in good faith to find a solution.
Conversely, if our team confirms compatibility based on the details you provided and the product still does not fit due to a genuine error on our side, for example a mismatch between our compatibility records and the item shipped, this is treated as a conformity issue and handled under the legal guarantee described below, not as a customer error.
- Double-check your VIN character by character; a single incorrect digit can point to the wrong factory configuration.
- If your vehicle has been modified from its original factory specification, let us know, as this can affect fitment for lighting and electronics.
- Respond to our verification email or WhatsApp message promptly, as processing only begins once your vehicle details are confirmed.
Legal Conformity Guarantee & Right of Withdrawal
Vehicle verification does not remove or reduce your statutory rights under EU consumer law. Here is how the products we sell are treated:
Our CarPlay units, Android Auto units, LED kits, and electronics are pre-manufactured, stock items matched to your vehicle by selection, not built or cut to your individual VIN. These qualify for the standard 14-day right of withdrawal under Directive 2011/83/EU, as set out in our Return & Refund Policy.
Genuine used OEM headlight assemblies are inspected before listing and remain subject to the 14-day withdrawal right and the legal conformity guarantee, which may be reduced to a minimum of one year for used goods where local law permits, instead of the standard two years for new goods.
If a specific order description states that an item is cut, modified, or configured specifically to your individual vehicle at your request and is not resaleable as a result, the right of withdrawal may not apply under Article 16(c) of Directive 2011/83/EU. This exception is limited to items expressly described as such at the time of purchase; it is not a general rule for our catalogue.
All new goods we sell carry the EU legal conformity guarantee under Directive (EU) 2019/771, normally running for two years from delivery. Vehicle-specific fitment, as confirmed during our verification process, forms part of what "conformity" means for these products: a headlight or LED kit confirmed compatible with your VIN that later proves not to fit due to our own listing or verification error is treated as non-conforming, and you are entitled to a repair, replacement, price reduction, or refund under the applicable national implementation of that Directive.
How We Protect Your Vehicle Data
A VIN can be linked to an identifiable vehicle and, in combination with your order details, to you personally. We treat it as personal data under the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679, GDPR) and handle it with the same care as any other personal information you share with us.
We use your VIN and vehicle details solely to verify product compatibility, process your order, and resolve any related warranty or return claim. We do not sell this information, and we do not use it for marketing profiling. It is shared only where necessary, for example with the specific supplier fulfilling a made-to-order item, or with our courier partners (DHL or UPS) where a vehicle reference is needed to route a warranty replacement correctly.
We retain VIN and vehicle-verification records for as long as needed to fulfil your order, respond to warranty or conformity claims, and meet our accounting and tax obligations, after which the data is deleted or anonymised in line with our Privacy Policy's retention schedule. Full details of our data protection practices, including your rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, and objection, are set out in our Privacy Policy.
Consumer & Data Protection Law, Country by Country
Across all thirteen countries we ship to, the withdrawal-right exception for personalised or cut-to-order goods, the two-year (or reduced one-year, for used goods) legal conformity guarantee, and GDPR data-subject rights apply on a harmonised EU basis. Each country also enforces this through its own consumer authority, civil or consumer code, and independent data protection authority, listed below.
Belgium
Czech Republic
France
Germany
Hungary
Italy
Croatia
Netherlands
Austria
Portugal
